The Path to the Presidency

In 1962 the late President John F Kennedy wrote, “The most important human qualities of leadership are best embodied in the most towering of American Presidents, Lincoln: a combination of humility and self-confidence, inner resolution and energy, which gives a President the capacity to listen to others, to be aware of his own limitations, but also to follow the command of John Adams that ‘in all great and essential measures the President is bound by honor and his conscience.to act his own mature and unbiased judgment.’ I can advice you to be aware of the importance of these qualities, but no one can tell you how to develop them. I only hope, for the welfare of our country, that you will possess them when you come to office.

No one can guarantee that if you follow this or any advice you will become a great President. For the presidency is peculiarly an office which is shaped by the individual who holds it. And greatness depends on the times as well as the man. But if you work toward your goal, practice discipline and unremitting effort, which Godspeed to those who will hold and protect the great office of the Republic so that it may pass unimpaired to you and those who follow you, then, if some chance keeps you from the presidency, you will still know that you are prepared to serve well your nation as a citizen. As I open the writings of the book ” The Path to the Presidency ” it is fitting that the reader understands the reason for the book and the challenge I face. Since I am a follower of the Every Living and a believer in our divine destiny, I would need to quote several important scriptures as an opening to this book. The first is from Habakuk 2:2 “And the Lord gave and answer and said, “Write the vision quite plain on a board, So that the reader may run, For quickly the vision will come, And pants to its aim, nor deceives; If it lingers, yet wait, for it comes, It advances-it will not delay!” F Fenton (1803) The Holy Bible. Merrimac , MA . Destiny Publishers. The second is from Acts 2:17 “And your youths will see visions; and you old men shall dream dreams.” F. Fenton (1903)
